DMSND A Program simplify adding and extracting sounds from DOOM Written by Jeff Miller E-Mail: jmiller@terra.colostate.edu *** About this program This program should be fairly simple to use. Just run DMSND and specify if you have the registered version of DOOM or not, where the sound files are (or are to be put), where your DOOM program is installed and whether you want your DOOM.WAD file to be backed up (only applicable for installing new sounds). Note that the sound files are expected to be in the format 01.WAV through 61.WAV (49.WAV for shareware DOOM), or 01.SND through 61.SND (or 49.SND). Note also that this program expects to find the DMAUD program in your PATH. The DMAUD program was written by Bill Nesius. I hope he doesn't mind me including version 1.1 with this distribution. *** Some Examples: 1. Extracting your current DOOM sounds Run DMSND Specify whether you have the registered or shareware version of DOOM installed. Specify the directory where DOOM is installed Specify the directory to extract the sound files to (the directory need not exist, and should preferably be an empty directory) Choose "Install/Extract Sounds" Choose "Extract Current Sounds" If all goes well, you should have a bunch of sound files (in .WAV format) in your chosen sound directory. 2. Installing new DOOM sounds This program has been designed to install sound files with the format 01.WAV (or 01.SND) through 61.{WAV,SND} (49.{WAV,SND} for the shareware version). If you have a DOOM sound pack that doesn't follow this format, use the install routine that came with the sounds (if any) to install the sounds into DOOM, then follow the steps in procedure 1 above ("Extracting your current DOOM sounds") to get the sound files into the DMSND format. Run DMSND Specify whether you have the registered or shareware version of DOOM installed. Specify the directory where DOOM is installed Specify the directory where the new sound files are, see the note above for the proper filename format for the sounds. Choose whether you want the DOOM.WAD file backed up (to DOOMWAD.BAK) Choose "Install/Extract Sounds" Choose "Install new sounds" If all goes well, your new sounds should now be installed into DOOM. Start DOOM and try it out! *** History v1.00 18Apr94 First public release *** Extra Notes This program is FREEWARE! No charge or restrictions for use. Please report bugs and (especially) comments to me at jmiller@terra.colostate.edu Thanks for trying this program!
